CAUSE AND PREVENTION
Skin aging is a consequence of the normal aging process. As a person grows older, every part of the body ages including the skin. The skin wrinkles, sags and age spots appears.
Cumulative sun damage accounts for 90 per cent of the skin's aging in a condition known as extrinsic aging. The remaining 10 per cent is determined by genetic factors and is known as intrinsic aging.
INTRINSIC SKIN AGING
Intrinsic or biological aging is determined by genetic factors. Although the term, chronological aging has been used synonymously with intrinsic aging or biological aging, this is strictly speaking, not entirely accurate.
Chronological aging is calculated from the time of birth whereas the structure and function of the skin determines its intrinsic or biological age.
Using various anti aging skin care methods, our efforts to stay young has enabled us to attain a biological or intrinsic age that is younger than the chronological age.
A healthy diet and various lifestyle changes should be part of our anti aging skin care program. Although intrinsic aging is determined by genetic factors and is inevitable, we can control it to some extent with discipline and adopting healthy habits.
EXTRINSIC SKIN AGING
Extrinsic or photo aging of the skin is also called sun-induced skin aging. While intrinsic aging is part of the biological skin aging process and extrinsic aging is a sun-induced skin aging process and therefore largely preventable.
Sun damage is accumulated a little each time there is an exposure to burning rays of the sun. The damage is not immediately noticeable. Often one is not aware of the amount of sun damage accumulated until much later, years later in fact.
If you develop wrinkles, it cannot be due to the last exposure to the burning rays of the sun. It is the total damage of all previous exposures.
If you have been exposed to the sun, it means that skin damage has taken place and cannot be undone. Even if you begin to avoid the sun immediately, the symptoms of sun damage will still develop and rear its ugly head later on in life.
ANTI AGING SKIN CARE TIP
Start making sun protection measures from young. Otherwise you will suffer the effects of cumulative sun damage later on in life. Taking precautions from young is very important. A change of attitudes is necessary. Do you want to retain your youthful complexion for as long as possible?
Anti aging skin care can help you. However, you need to stop regarding a tan complexion as healthy. Achieving a tan is done at the expense of a lot of skin damage. There are different consequences of excessive sun exposure. Premature skin aging is the cosmetic consequence. The symptoms of skin aging are sagging skin, wrinkles and unevenly colored skin. An increase in risk of contracting skin cancers is the medical consequence. This is even worse as it is life-threatening.

THE MEDICAL STUFF
The harmful rays of the sun cause the collagen fibers in the dermis to lose their orderly rope-like appearance. These are replaced by massive amounts of elastotic tissue. The elastotic tissues have elastinlike microscopic staining characteristics which thicken the dermis.
Healthy collagen fibers are arranged as wavy fibers that run parallel to the epidermis above. The sun-damaged fibers are arranged in irregular clumps and strands. This causes the skin to develop coarse wrinkles and a coarse yellowish leathery appearance known as solar elastosis. These tissues are commonly referred to as the tissues that give the skin a "spaghetti and meatball" appearance.
Elastin fibers also lose their delicate structure and latticework arrangement and become moth-eaten and tangled. This results in a loss of elasticity and resilience. The collagen fibers supporting the walls of blood vessels are also affected, causing blood vessels to become twisted, dilated and fragile. This gives rise to purpura (bruises) from minor trauma. UV light induces free radical formation, which is implicated as a cause of skin aging.
